Let’s review the basics.
What are neuromodulators?
Neuromodulators are a family of non-invasive injectable treatments made of proteins that are designed to soften the appearance of wrinkles and lines that are created by repeated expressions. The most well-known of this group is Botox, but includes other treatments like Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau. These treatments relax and treat wrinkles by softening the hyperactive muscles that cause them to appear. It is a simple quick 5 minute treatment with zero down time and incredibly high patient satisfaction rates!
What is Jeuveau?
Jeuveau is the brand new wrinkle-relaxing protein comparable to Botox that will be launching this May 2019. This exciting new injectable neuromodulator will treat things like the frown lines (aka the “11s” between the brows), crow’s feet, and horizontal forehead lines. The US currently has four neuromodulators which are essentially the same “active” ingredient housed in slightly different proteins: Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and now Jeuveau.
What is the difference between Botox and Jeuveau?
Jeuveau and Botox are both wrinkle relaxers that work via the exact same mechanism, just made by different manufacturers. We like to make the comparison of it being “coke and pepsi”. They are extremely similar in safety, effectiveness, and duration of effect. Some of our patients may find they prefer one over the other based on personal experience, so we encourage our patients to try both at some point!
