Resurface texture and remove unwanted spots
With vastly improved technologies, there has been a flood of different lasers to treat different problems on the market. Consequently, there is great confusion among consumers about what lasers do.
Lasers are utilized to improve the texture of the skin, treat deeper wrinkles, even pigmentation, and brighten the skin. In short, each unique laser has highly selective energy to focus on various skin imperfections. Most commonly treated problems include:
- Rosacea, Redness, Flushing
- Brown sun or age spots
- Broken blood vessels or vessels around the nose area
- Acne scars
- Wrinkled, dull skin
- Enlarged pores
- Stretch marks
There is no one single laser that treats everything, but at The Derm Institute, we will use our state-of-the-art equipment and expertise to work with you to find an individualized treatment plan that addresses whatever your concerns. For example, if you want to improve the redness of the face or brown spots, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is extremely effective in addressing these issues. Depressed acne scars or enlarged pores can benefit from a Fractional Non-ablative Laser or Infini Microfocused Radiofrequency. On the other hand, if you feel like your entire face seems rough, crépy, and dull, a Fractional Ablative Laser may be needed.
Unlike a standard medispa, at The Derm Institute, we only use the latest and most advanced technologies. Because of Dr. Chiu’s broad experience and in-depth medical knowledge of the skin, we are able to push treatment boundaries to give you the most effective results while still balancing safety for all skin types.
Common Questions:
Is it painful?
Laser treatment comfort depends greatly on how deeply we are treating the skin. Deeper treatments like Ablative Fractional Resurfacing would be more painful than Intense Pulsed Light (Photofacial). Dr. Chiu and the team at The Derm Institute will customize pretreatment options to make your experience as comfortable as possible.
How many sessions does it take?
This depends on what we are treating. For brown spots or broken blood vessels on the face, 1-2 sessions spaced a month apart usually gives fantastic results. For acne scars or stretch marks, the non-ablative fractional laser takes 4-5 sessions to see the results. To improve pore size and fine lines, and for minimal downtime for the Clear and Brilliant laser, a series of 4 treatments are recommended.
What will my downtime be?
Again, this varies by laser. An Intense Pulsed Light Photofacial or Clear and Brilliant laser has virtually no downtime, while fractional ablative resurfacing procedures can take about 7 days to heal.
