4 Non-Invasive Treatments for a Snatched Jawline

Women profile view wearing a red shirt with a sculpted jawline.

Achieving a defined and sculpted jawline is a desired trait for both men and women. Fortunately, advancements in cosmetic procedures now offer various non-invasive options to help you attain that “snatched” look without surgery. Dr. Annie Chiu, a renowned dermatologist in Manhattan Beach, CA, specializes in these innovative treatments that enhance the jawline while maintaining a natural appearance.

This post will explore four popular non-invasive treatments: Sofwave for skin tightening, fillers, thread lifts, and a combination of Botox and Kybella.

1. Sofwave for Skin Tightening

Sofwave is a cutting-edge technology that utilizes high-frequency, low-divergence ultrasound to stimulate collagen production deep within the skin. This non-invasive treatment is ideal for tightening and lifting the jawline, providing a smoother and more youthful appearance.

How Sofwave Works

Sofwave delivers ultrasound energy precisely to bulk heat and thus tightens the collagen in the dermal layers of the skin, bypassing the surface to avoid damage. The ultrasound waves generate thermal zones that trigger the body’s natural healing response to stimulate collagen and elastic tissue production. Increased collagen tightens the skin and improves elasticity, effectively contouring the jawline.

Benefits of Sofwave for Skin Tightening

  • Non-invasive: No needles or incisions are required.
  • Minimal Downtime: Patients may resume daily activities right after the treatment.
  • Quick Procedure: Sessions typically last about 30 to 45 minutes.
  • Long-Lasting Results: Results continue to improve over several months as collagen production increases.

What to Expect

During a Sofwave session, a handheld device delivers ultrasound energy to the targeted areas. Patients may feel a warming sensation, but discomfort is minimal. Results appear within a few weeks, with optimal outcomes visible after three to six months.

2. Fillers

Natural aging degrades the bone structural support along the lower face and jawline, starting in our 40s. This decreasing support causes the skin of the lower face to droop, causing a jowly, bottom-heavy appearance.  Dermal fillers are popular for enhancing the jawline by adding volume and definition. Hyaluronic acid and or calcium-based fillers like Juvederm and Radiesse are commonly used to create a more structured and contoured jawline.

How Fillers Work

Fillers are injected into specific areas along the jawline to replenish the loss of bone that occurs with aging and enhance and contour the jawline and chin shape. Biostimulatory fillers can be used to obtain immediate correction, and provide long-lasting elastic tissue remodeling to improve and tighten the skin quality.

Benefits of Fillers

  • Immediate Results: Noticeable improvements are visible right after the treatment.
  • Customizable: Filler placement and volume are tailored to each patient’s needs.
  • Non-surgical: No need for incisions or anesthesia.
  • Minimal Downtime: Some swelling and bruising may occur but typically resolve within a few days.

What to Expect

The treatment employs a series of injections along the jawline. Dr. Chiu will assess your facial structure and desired outcome to determine the best approach. Results are immediate, with full effects visible within 1-2 weeks. Fillers in this area generally last 12 months or greater, depending on the type used and individual metabolism.

3. Threads | Thread Lift

Thread lifts offer a non-surgical alternative to a traditional facelift by using dissolvable sutures to lift and tighten the skin. This treatment is effective for redefining the jawline and reducing sagging.

How Thread Lifts Work

Specialized threads made of polydioxanone (PDO) are inserted under the skin using a fine needle. The threads anchor in the deeper layers of the skin, and when pulled tight, they lift the skin, providing immediate results. Additionally, the threads stimulate collagen production, enhancing the skin’s texture and firmness over time.

Benefits of Thread Lifts

  • Immediate Lift: Noticeable improvement right after the procedure.
  • Collagen Stimulation: Promotes long-term skin tightening and rejuvenation.
  • Minimally Invasive: Less risk and recovery time compared to traditional surgery.
  • Natural-Looking Results: Enhances the jawline without dramatic changes.

What to Expect

During a thread lift procedure, Dr. Chiu will insert the threads along the jawline and adjust them to achieve the desired lift. The procedure takes about 30 to 60 minutes, and patients can return to their daily activities shortly after. Some swelling and bruising may appear but usually resolve within a week. Results can last up to 18 months.

4. Botox and Kybella

Combining Botox and Kybella treatments offers a powerful approach to achieving a snatched jawline by addressing muscle activity and fat reduction.

How Botox Works

Botox is a neuromodulator that temporarily relaxes muscles. When injected into specific areas of the jawline, it can slim the face by reducing the size of the masseter muscles responsible for chewing and clenching. This can help tighten the lower face, and to emphasize a more V-shape to the face.

How Kybella Works

Kybella is an injectable treatment that uses deoxycholic acid to break down and permanently eliminate fat cells. It is FDA-approved for reducing submental fat (the fat beneath the chin) and is also used to reduce the appearance of jowls– helping to contour and define the jawline.

Benefits of Botox and Kybella

  • Targeted Treatment: Addresses both muscle and fat for comprehensive contouring.
  • Non-surgical: No incisions or significant downtime.
  • Customizable: Treatments are tailored to each patient’s specific needs.
  • Long-Lasting Results: Botox effects last 3 to 6 months, while Kybella results are permanent.

What to Expect

Botox injections for jawline contouring typically involve small injections into the masseter muscles. The procedure is quick with minimal discomfort and no downtime. Results become noticeable within a few weeks and last for several months.

Kybella treatments involve multiple small injections under the chin. The procedure can cause swelling and discomfort that subsides within a few days. Spaced a month apart, multiple sessions may be required to achieve the desired results. Once the fat cells are destroyed, they do not return, permanently improving the jawline’s appearance.

4 Benefits of Juvéderm’s Newest Innovation, Skinvive

In the ever-evolving world of cosmetic dermatology, advancements provide innovative ways to enhance our natural beauty and restore youthful radiance. Juvéderm, a household name in the realm of dermal fillers, has again taken a pioneering step by introducing Skinvive, microinjections designed to transform skin rejuvenation.

Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Annie Chiu wants to introduce you to the fascinating world of Skinvive, exploring what it is, how it works, and why it’s gaining rapid popularity among people seeking to improve their skin texture and overall appearance.

What Is Skinvive?

Skinvive is a revolutionary microinjectable version of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar molecule that keeps our skin hydrated and healthy. Skinvive by Juvederm gives the skin a firmer, smoother, and more hydrated appearance.  An injectable moisturizer that lasts 6-9 months! This unique product has gained attention for its ability to rehydrate the skin, improving quality and appearance. Skinvive can be used successfully in any skin type and can benefit the vast majority of our patients.

Unlike traditional dermal fillers that focus on restoring volume, Skinvive’s formulation boosts hydration, elasticity, and overall smoothness. It’s a perfect choice for anyone seeking a natural-looking result and just more luminous, radiant skin with next to zero downtime!

How Does Skinvive Work?

Skinvive’s active ingredient is hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that maintains moisture, suppleness, and firmness. Starting in our 30s, the skin’s natural hyaluronic acid levels decrease, leading to the development of fine lines, wrinkles, and a loss of overall skin quality.

Skinvive works by replenishing the lost HA, effectively hydrating and revitalizing the skin from within. The treatment involves a series of tiny micro-injections into target areas like your face, neck, décolleté, and hands. These injections deposit the HA gel beneath the skin’s surface, where it works its magic over time.

Skinvive Benefits

If you want to enhance your skin from within, Skinvive offers numerous benefits.

1. Improved Skin Texture

Skinvive has a remarkable ability to enhance skin texture. This treatment addresses various concerns that can affect your complexion’s smoothness and overall quality.

  • Fewer lines and wrinkles: Injecting Skinvive’s hyaluronic acid gel beneath your skin’s surface replenishes lost moisture and stimulates collagen production. This process gradually smooths fine lines and wrinkles, leading to a more youthful and refreshed appearance.
  • Enhanced skin smoothness: Skinvive’s hydration is particularly beneficial for people with uneven skin tone, rough patches, or acne scars, as it can help minimize these imperfections.
  • Soften acne scarring: Skinvive gives a slight plumping effect on skin that has mild acne scarring to reveal a smoother more even texture.
  • Increased elasticity: Skinvive’s hydration and collagen-stimulating effects contribute to improved skin elasticity. Your skin can bounce back more readily, reducing laxity and sagging.

2. Enhanced Hydration

Hydration is the cornerstone of healthy, youthful-looking skin, and here’s where Skinvive excels. Hyaluronic acid, the primary component of Skinvive, can retain up to 1,000 times its weight in water.

  • Deep and long-lasting hydration: Hyaluronic acid is a moisture magnet, attracting and locking it in. This deep and long-lasting hydration revitalizes the skin’s appearance, making it look plump, supple, and radiant.
  • Dryness and dehydration relief: If you struggle with dry skin, Skinvive can be a game-changer. It replenishes moisture levels, alleviating discomfort, flakiness, and tightness.
  • Improved skin barrier function: Adequate hydration supports the skin’s natural barrier, shielding it from external threats like pollution and UV radiation and leading to a healthier and more resilient complexion.

3. Outstanding Results

Skinvive stands out for its ability to provide a subtle-looking improvement. Unlike other injectables designed to volumize, Skinvive prioritizes enhancing skin quality without altering your appearance. This gentle touch-up is an excellent choice for maintaining your natural beauty.

Whether you want to target a specific area of concern or achieve an overall improvement in skin quality, Dr. Chiu can tailor Skinvive treatments to meet your needs and goals. With Skinvive, there is a minimal risk of overcorrection or an artificial appearance. The focus on hydration and skin quality ensures results blend seamlessly with your features.

4. Versatility

Another significant advantage of Skinvive is its versatility. It can improve various areas of your body, including your face, neck, hands, décolleté and anywhere on the body. This flexibility allows you to address multiple concerns in one treatment, making Skinvive a comprehensive and convenient solution. You can achieve a harmonious and youthful appearance across your face and body.

Whether you’re looking to smooth fine lines, boost skin hydration, or achieve a natural-looking rejuvenation, Skinvive can help you attain your skin care goals with minimal downtime and impressive, long-lasting results.

5 Benefits of Brightening Your Undereyes with Restylane Eyelight

Are your under eyes plagued by dark circles, bagginess, and fine lines that betray your age or make you appear perpetually tired? Through the expert hands of Dr. Annie Chiu and her skilled team at The Derm Institute, you can unlock many benefits beyond conventional cosmetic procedures.

Restylane Eyelight is a filler that can help address some of these common concerns. The hyaluronic acid-based gel filler is injected beneath the skin to address the volume loss and shadows that contribute to dark circles. As the filler integrates into the skin, it adds subtle volume and triggers collagen production, a critical factor in maintaining youthful skin. This dual-action approach ensures not only immediate improvement but also long-term rejuvenation.

What Is Restylane Eyelight?

Restylane Eyelight is a cutting-edge solution for brightening the under eyes, offering benefits ranging from diminishing dark circles to replacing lost volume. With its non-invasive nature and long-lasting results, this treatment is a game-changer for those seeking to rejuvenate their appearance without surgery.

Unlike other dermal fillers, Restylane Eyelight is carefully crafted to target the specific issues that commonly affect the undereye region, making it a highly effective and specialized option.

One of the distinguishing features of Restylane Eyelight is its unique composition, which includes hyaluronic acid and carefully selected ingredients that target pigmentation concerns. By explicitly addressing the pigmentation that contributes to dark circles, Restylane Eyelight achieves a dual-action effect that adds volume and reduces discoloration. This combination produces a brighter, smoother undereye area that radiates a youthful glow.

Below, Dr. Chiu explores five remarkable benefits of using Restylane Eyelight for brightening your under eyes and how The Derm Institute helps its patients achieve a refreshed and youthful appearance.

1. Diminishes Dark Circles

Dark circles are a common concern stemming from genetics, lack of sleep, and age-related skin thinning. Restylane Eyelight is a specialized dermal filler formulated to address these issues. The treatment involves injecting a hyaluronic acid-based filler under the skin, which adds volume to the area resulting in a visibly brighter, less shadowed, and more smooth undereye area.

2. Reduces Puffiness

Puffy under eyes can make you appear tired and older than you are. Restylane Eyelight contains a unique blend of hyaluronic acid and other skin-loving ingredients that work to hydrate and plump the skin, reducing the appearance of puffiness. The treatment provides a refreshed and more awake look by targeting the underlying causes of puffiness, such as fluid retention and weakened skin structure.

3. Smooths Fine Lines

As we age, the delicate skin around the eyes becomes more prone to fine lines and wrinkles due to decreased collagen production and repetitive facial expressions. Restylane Eyelight not only adds volume to hollow areas but helps to smooth fine lines and restore a smoother, more radiant appearance to the undereye region.

4. Quick and Non-Invasive

One of the significant advantages of Restylane Eyelight treatment is its non-invasive nature. Unlike surgical procedures, this treatment requires no downtime, allowing you to immediately return to most daily activities. The process typically takes around 15 to 30 minutes, making it a convenient option for individuals with busy lifestyles.

5. Long-Lasting Results

Restylane Eyelight offers long-lasting results, extending for up to a year or more. This benefit allows you to enjoy your brighter and more youthful undereye area without the hassle of frequent touch-up appointments. The gradual breakdown of the hyaluronic acid filler allows for a natural fade, ensuring the transformation remains subtle and beautiful.

Meet Volux, Juvéderm’s Newest Filler for Sculpting the Perfect Jawline

Image provided by manufacturer.

The jawline is a critical facial feature for attractiveness and beauty, and many people desire improved definition in this area. With age, your face loses volume and descends over time with gravity, resulting in jowls that soften the distinction between your jaw and neck. Though skillful makeup application can help in the short term, these hide the problem instead of solving it.

If you want to look your best but struggle with a weaker, smaller chin, droopy jowls, or a less defined than desired jawline either due to age or genetics, Dr. Annie Chiu of The Derm Institute is proud to offer Juvéderm Volux for lower face contouring, including the chin and jawline. Here’s what you need to know about this advanced dermal filler.

Volux for a Defined Jawline

The Derm Institute now offers Juvéderm Volux, an FDA-approved, hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler, to enhance jawline definition and the contours of the lower face.

  • Long lasting results
  • Defined youthful appearance
  • Natural looking results
  • Safe and Effective

Allergan, the makers of Juvéderm, designed Volux to deliver a natural definition to areas like the angle of the jaw, jowls, jawline, and chin. Dr. Chiu can partner with you to create a more defined and youthful lower face. The hyaluronic acid-based filler Volux is a next-generation dermal filler that is designed to give a natural, revitalized lift to the chin and jawline without the telltale signs of artificial filler.  Using advanced injection techniques, Dr. Chiu can use Juvederm Volux to enhance the contours of the lower face, diminishing the appearance of jowls, and create a more chiseled, or heart-shaped face depending on the need.

Clinical trials showed a high satisfaction level for Volux, with improvements lasting well over a year. Balancing the jawline and chin with an injectable like Volux optimizes facial appearance and improves symmetry.

Potential areas Volux can address include:

  • Visible signs of lower facial aging
  • Jowls
  • A weak or ill-defined jawline
  • A deeply cleft chin, a small chin, or a retracted chin

The choice of fillers for facial rejuvenation is important for optimal results. But choosing who performs the injections is the most critical, which we’ll explain below.

Is Volux the Same as Voluma?

While Dr. Chiu utilizes all current FDA-approved fillers available in the United States, fillers like Restylane Lyft and Juvéderm Voluma create facial symmetry, while Juvéderm Volux is differentiated as a hyaluronic acid filler in that it contains a thicker, more cohesive and robust formula. The durable quality of Juvederm Volux is ideal to enhance jawline definition, lift the jowls, and balance the chin with natural-appearing results like other hyaluronic acid fillers that last up to 18 months. Through cohesive formulas designed with poly-L-lactic acid are appropriate to enhance jawline definition, most patients prefer hyaluronic acid fillers for natural results that last up to 18 months. Therefore, Juvéderm’s Volux can fill the non-surgical gap for jawline improvement.

Like our other Juvéderm injectable products, Volux is a hyaluronic acid filler to address lost facial volume and revitalize treated areas.  On the lower face, the Volux consistency imitates more closely bone and is more proficient in lifting tissues along the lower face including the chin and jawline.

Is Volux FDA-Approved?

On Aug. 3, 2022, Allergan announced the FDA approval of Juvéderm Volux for adults over 21 with moderate to severe jawline volume loss as studied in clinical trials. Lower face volume loss transcends race, gender, ethnicity, and age. Because so many people struggle with this aesthetic issue due to genetics or soft tissue loss, Dr. Chiu is excited to introduce them to Volux to improve chin profiles, jawline definition and eliminate saggy jowls.

Is Volux Available in the U.S.?

Juvéderm’s Volux for jawline contouring is now available with Annie Chiu, MD at The Derm Institute.  Contact us if you are interested! Volux’s FDA approval represents the most significant leap in innovation for Juvéderm’s hyaluronic acid fillers since it introduced Voluma. It complements our product line at The Derm Institute, offering more structure and lift capacity to enhance your jawline contour for first-time impressions or social media posts. This product has high satisfaction in men and women alike.

How Long Will Volux Last?

Juvéderm Volux is Allergan’s longest-lasting hyaluronic acid dermal filler. Clinical studies have shown a duration of up to two years. The length of dermal filler benefits ultimately depends on how quickly your body breaks down the product, which varies from patient to patient. As with all hyaluronic acid fillers, you can have Volux dissolved by using the hyaluronidase enzyme if you are dissatisfied with your results.

What should I expect after my Juvederm Volux Treatment?

You may experience some minor swelling and redness at the injection site.  This is normal and should resolve over a few days.

If you wish to minimize bruising, please follow our Pre-Filler Directions detailing what medication to avoid to decrease your risk of bruising.

Can You Combine Volux With Other Injectables?

For comprehensive facial rejuvenation, Dr. Chiu offers the patented TDI Effortless Lift. This non-surgical treatment includes fillers in facial areas and injectable neuromodulators like Botox. Dr. Chiu will sculpt, lift, and volumize facial contours by taking advantage of each product’s slightly different enhancements and using a layering effect. This process is the best approach for total facial rejuvenation, as it doesn’t focus on one problem area but your face as a whole.

The application of various non-invasive treatments, combined with Dr. Chiu’s expertise, sets The Derm Institute apart. She uses no shortcuts, inappropriate dilutions, or discounted supplies. Dr. Chiu and her team prioritize providing safe, expert, and artistic facial rejuvenation.

Juvéderm Volux at The Derm Institute

We unconsciously associate facial symmetry with health and beauty. For most patients, Juvéderm Volux can provide a stronger, more defined chin and jawline without surgery, liposuction, or implants.

Juvéderm Volux is the only FDA-approved hyaluronic acid filler designed to lift, define, and contour the jaw and chin area.

What’s New in Anti-Aging? Hello Jeuveau!

There is a new wrinkle relaxer set to launch this Spring from Evolus, and like most new injectable treatments that become available, The Derm Institute will be one of the first clinics in the country to launch the product, and we are here to share the 411 on this new “botox-like” product.  If you want to be one of the first to experience this Botox-like “newtox” to reduce wrinkles, contact us today to get on our waiting list for launch specials!

Let’s review the basics.

What are neuromodulators?

Neuromodulators are a family of non-invasive injectable treatments made of proteins that are designed to soften the appearance of wrinkles and lines that are created by repeated expressions.  The most well-known of this group is Botox, but includes other treatments like Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau.  These treatments relax and treat wrinkles by softening the hyperactive muscles that cause them to appear. It is a simple quick 5 minute treatment with zero down time and incredibly high patient satisfaction rates!

What is Jeuveau?

Jeuveau is the brand new wrinkle-relaxing protein comparable to Botox that will be launching this May 2019.  This exciting new injectable neuromodulator will treat things like the frown lines (aka the “11s” between the brows), crow’s feet, and horizontal forehead lines.  The US currently has four neuromodulators which are essentially the same “active” ingredient housed in slightly different proteins:  Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and now Jeuveau.

What is the difference between Botox and Jeuveau?

Jeuveau and Botox are both wrinkle relaxers that work via the exact same mechanism, just made by different manufacturers.  We like to make the comparison of it being “coke and pepsi”.  They are extremely similar in safety, effectiveness, and duration of effect.  Some of our patients may find they prefer one over the other based on personal experience, so we encourage our patients to try both at some point!  There are nuanced differences in all of the neuromodulators available—discuss with our team and Dr. Chiu to find the best option for you!

Who is Evolus?

Evolus is the home company for Jeuveau based in Southern California. They are the first company in close to a decade that has entered the ever-growing U.S. aesthetic injectable market. Evolus aims to bring a fresh perspective to physician delivered anti-aging treatments and an approachable new focus on performance-based beauty.   Their goal is to deliver breakthrough products for the aesthetic market. They are launching the first ever neuromodulator that is solely dedicated to aesthetic treatments, Jeuveau.

What’s to come in the future of the injectable market?

Thankfully the medical beauty industry is ever growing and innovating.  In the next few years we expect a longer-lasting botox like product on the market, as well as a fast acting (onset in 1 day) neuromodulator to be approved.  If you are interested in trying the latest, contact us and we can put you on our introductory list!

Needle-less Micro-Cannula Injections

Did you know you can have filler procedures done in a way to minimize discomfort, risk of bruising, decrease swelling, and avoid multiple needle sticks? Sounds too good to be true? Actually, Dr. Annie Chiu specializes in this advanced technique called Micro-Cannula injection for fillers so most patients have ZERO downtime and discomfort!

If the fear of needles has been holding you back from cosmetic procedures, be assured Dr. Chiu is an expert in this “needless” technique.

What is a Micro-Cannula?
Microcannulas are an alternative to needles when administering fillers. Needles are sharp, which leads to discomfort, and a higher risk of bruising such as the sharp end can injure blood vessels (which leads to bruises). Conversely Microcannulas are thin flexible tubes with smooth rounded tips that push vessels and nerves out of the way when under the skin—leading to much less trauma, swelling, and risk of bruising.

Benefits of Micro-Cannula technique include:

  •  Minimal to no discomfort
  • Less risk to no bruising
  • Decreased tissue trauma
  • Less pain
  • Less swelling

Common areas for Micro-Cannula use include:

  • Fillers for undereye circles, or undereye hollowing
  • Lip fillers
  •  Jawline
  • Hands
  • Smile lines or nasolabial folds
  • Advanced brow and forehead contouring

As always, the Microcannula is a tool all injectors can opt to use, but know that it takes a lot of experience and technique to master delivery of filler in this method in the correct planes of the face. In Dr. Chiu’s hands, you can trust you are being treated by an incredibly talented expert in Microcannula technique.

If you are interested in learning more, contact our office today!

Common Questions:

Really? Absolutely no bruising or pain?
Microcannulas allow much less entry points through the skin where you feel needle “pricks”. Most of what is felt is a bit of pressure, so yes, it is a lot less painful. The risk of bruising is greatly diminished, and most of our patients get no bruising. However, it is still possible to have some minimal bruising, especially if you are on certain medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or fish oil.

Can all injectables be done with a Microcannula?
Most hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvederm , Volbella, Restylane, as well as Radiesse can be administered with a Microcannula. Dr. Chiu guides our patients in where it is most appropriate and gives the best results.

Lip rejuvenation with lip fillers does not always only involve injecting the lip directly. Total lip rejuvenation is often achieved with injections in the lip for volumization, and additional treatment to the fine lines around the mouth. These lines are often referred to as “smoker’s lines”.

Lip filler treatments usually last between 9-12 months and are naturally absorbed by the body. Repeated treatments at recommended treatment intervals can actually improve the duration of your filler.

Why get lip fillers?

  • To make vertical lip “smoker’s lines” or “lipstick lines” disappear
  • To give crinkly lips a glossed appearance so they look dewy
  • To better define the cupid’s bow, or M portion of the lip
  • Define the lip borders
  • Upturn the corners of a downturned mouth

Redefyning What “Natural” Means with Newly Approved Next Generation Fillers

2017 welcomes two new sugar-molecule Hyaluronic Acid based fillers to the market:  Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne.

The Restylane family of fillers have been on the market with proven safety and reliability for over 20 years.  With more and more fillers available to choose from, the dermatologist’s ability to treat patients in a more customized fashion gets better and better.  As usual, because Dr. Chiu is a trainer and renowned expert in injectable fillers—she is among the first doctors in the country to be able to introduce these next generation flexible movement fillers to her patients at The Derm Institute.

Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne are soft, flexible, natural appearing fillers that are not rigid or stiff and thus integrate naturally with you, your expressions, and your confidence.  There’s no doubt the thought of fillers often conjure up images of overfilled, unnatural, ‘real-housewives’ of insert city of your choosing.  The good news is—when proportional, natural, balanced rejuvenation is done with an injectable filler expert like Dr. Chiu—no one will know.  These next generation fillers that are more flexible and dynamic and move with your own natural expressions only makes soft, unnoticeable rejuvenation that could not be further from the fears of the frozen, overfilled, alien-looking appearance everyone worries about.

Because of their smooth gel characteristic and unique flexibility—Restylane Refyne and Defyne are great first time fillers as well as those who have had fillers in the past but need a little boost in areas with more movement.

Common areas to use Refyne and Defyne:

  • Undereye circles and hollows. Smooth consistency, less likelihood of movement, and less swelling make Refyne a great new choice for a common complaint.
  • Radiating smile lines of the cheeks. Everyone loves a great smile, but those accordion like lines that bunch up the cheeks can be pesky to treat.  Given the natural integration with movement of Refyne and Defyne, we can soften these lines and still have it look natural.image2image3
  • Laugh Lines (Nasolabial folds and marionette lines). Folds around the mouth are influenced by a lot of movement with talking, eating, smiling.  Defyne can help soften these movements and deep folds while staying in place for up to a year.
  • Hollowing or Dimpling of the mid cheek. Over time, when we make expressions like laughing or smiling, hollows around the mid cheek look more prominent.  Giving a hollowed tired appearance.  Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne can soften these areas whether you are smiling or not.

Refyne and Defyne are line extensions of the existing Restylane hyaluronic acid family of fillers using unique XpresHAn Crosslinking technology. This technology allows a more flexible, natural appearing filler that moves with your expressions but doesn’t migrate from the area it was placed.

When fillers are used naturally—it is corrective:  meaning we are replacing lost fat pads and bone structure that occurs with time.  It isn’t about giving you cheeks you never had.  It’s about returning that softness that is associated with youth.  Having products like Restylane Refyne and Defyne allows us to further follow the trend towards natural appearing rejuvenation.  Studies have shown fillers when placed into areas that create wrinkles over time with repeated expression—such as the smokers lines or smile lines, they can actually stimulate the existing fibroblast to produce more collagen.  Making them truly preventative as well.

Like all hyaluronic acid fillers, including Juvederm and Voluma results can be reversed easily—but once you see how soft and natural you look— your worries about looking “done” will dissolve away. . .
